Dakota Johnson, who plays Anastasia Steele on the “Fifty Shades” trilogy, has made a revelation about her character in the movie.

The American actress admitted on Elle Magazine that she needed her character to be funny. While the movie isn’t exactly a comedy film, Dakota revealed that approaching her role like this will make her character more “relatable.”

Johnson said, “If you can’t laugh during a movie like that, you’re f–ked. Literally. You need to have something that everyone can relate to.”

In the film, Anastasia is an awkward, young college graduate who finds herself drawn to a young, mysterious businessman, Christian Grey, who happens to adhere to the BDSM lifestyle. She falls in love with him.

The Director of the erotic drama flick, Sam Taylor-Johnson, knew that Dakota Johnson can perfectly play the role of Anastasia Steele. He said, “There had to be a sense of wide-eyed, excitable curiosity, but grounded in a worldliness.  She had to have an inner strength that would carry her through the darkest of moments. I knew straightaway that Dakota was the girl.”

In the first installment, “Fifty Shades of Grey,” critics had commended Johnson for her portrayal of the role.  A review from ABC News applauded Johnson for her perfect combination of innocence and confidence. They referred to Johnson as the best thing on the film.

Recently, E! Online mentions Leslie Mann, who awarded Johnson with the Calvin Klein Spotlight award, also praised Johnson’s performance on the film.

She said, “In the movie she too plays a virgin and you believe it—but in real life she is not. I feel like she would eat [Christian Grey].”

The site also reported that Johnson admitted to them some of her questionable choices on fashion and music in the previous years. She has confessed listening to a band named Phish and has cornrowed her hair during a vacation in the early days.

The Movie News Guide notes that the role of Anastasia Steele has considered a lot of young stars including Emma Watson and Shailene Woodley  but Johnson was fortunate to portray the role and be back for “Fifty Shades Darker.”  “Fifty Shades Darker” will be shown in theatres on February 10, 2017.
