Reigning Spanish La Liga champions FC Barcelona are keen on keeping a tight grip on their trio of superstars. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic are all reportedly being offered new contracts before the end of the year. Meanwhile, manager Luis Enrique has put contract talks on hold.

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi still has a solid contract with FC Barcelona until 2018. However, the Daily Mail reports that the club is already preparing an extension deal. After all, Messi is the club’s all-time top scorer and has proven to be a definite asset to the club in the past several seasons.

Luis Suarez won last season’s Golden Boot award after netting 40 league goals. He is under contract until 2019, alongside Ivan Rakitic. However, both players are set to be offered contract renewals even with three years still left to burn.

‘We will speak to Messi just as we will talk to Suarez and Rakitic. We will do so in the next few months because we want them to renew their contracts,” said Josep Maria Bartomeu, the Barcelona club President.

Bartomeu believes that all three players still have a lot to offer the club. Messi is expected to return stronger even after suffering a hamstring injury this week.

While the club’s best players are looking forward to contract extensions, team manager Luis Enrique does not have his fate set in stone. Yahoo Sports reports that he has agreed to put talks of a contract renewal until February or March 2017.

The team’s performance in the next several months will most definitely determine the direction of those talks. To date, Enrique has had a very successful run with FC Barcelona. In his two years at the helm, the club has won eight out of a possible 10 trophies including a La Liga, Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League treble in 2015.
