“Fast and Furious 8” will be followed by the ninth and tenth instalment to the franchise. Vin Diesel confirmed this recently via Instagram.
E reported Diesel’s IG confirmation of the trilogy for the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Fast 8 rolls into theatres on April 14, 2017. Fast 9 and Fast 10 hit theatres, April 19, 2019, and April 2, 2021, respectively.
In September last year, Slash Film gave details about Diesel’s Facebook post hinting of the “Trilogy to end the saga.”
“Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision. They have been like family. I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga,” he shared.
The plot of Fast 8 is still unknown. However, as Digital Spy explained, Furious 7 concluded Brian O’Connor’s (Paul Walker) story. It also introduced Mr Nobody played by Kurt Russell.
Hence, Digital Spy predicts the trilogy will focus on the new challenges Dom and his team will face for each instalment.
Meanwhile, a source told Deadline of a female villain possibly coming into the Fast 8 storyline.
According to the report, the film’s director F. Gray and screenwriter Chris Morgan have their eye on Academy Award winning actor Charlize Theron. Gray directed Theron in the movie “The Italian Job”.
She also played the villain in “Snow White & The Huntsman” and will resume her villainous role in the sequel, “The Huntsman: Winter’s War”. Theron’s recent starring role in “Mad Max: Fury Road” earned her praises.
To date, no official comment from Universal is out regarding Theron joining the cast, Deadline added.
Production for Fast 8 is already underway. An update on the film’s progress last month revealed its plans to shoot scenes in Iceland. News of the late Paul Walker appearing in Fast 8 via CGI also circulated.
Other stars who are back for Fast 8 include Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Jason Statham.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed his return for Fast 8, Screen Rant reported. In an Instagram video clip, Johnson provided details about his shooting schedule for 2016, which includes Fast 8.
