“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is doing great in theaters but critics and some die-hard fans feel otherwise as they petition movie director Zack Snyder off of the upcoming “Justice League” movie.
DC fan Bryan Cruz started a petition on change.org to “not (be) the person to bring the Justice League to the big screen.”
The petition, titled “Boot Zack Snyder off of Justice League,” now has 3,668 supporters and needs an additional 1,332 supporters to reach its target of 5,000 as of press time.
Cruz added that Snyder had two chances to adapt the DC characters and has produced “middling results.”
He also wrote, “There has to come a time when WB (Warner Brothers) and DC want someone at the helm that can create something that WON’T divide people in such a way.”
He added that with Snyder’s track record, he should not be in charge of the biggest and most important films in the DC franchise.
However, Matthew Mueller of Comicbook.com says otherwise. He writes, “Not every film has to be to everybody’s tastes. I have no problem with Snyder or any director going with a singular vision of a property, and not diluting that formula with things that are included simply to appease a broad audience.”
Despite the negative reviews, The Guardian reports that “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’” final global box-office gross at the weekend was $420m (£295m), the best for a superhero movie and the fourth biggest of all time.
The movie also marked Warner Bros’ biggest box office haul over three days in China, yet only the 17th biggest ever in the world’s most populous nation.
Despite the blockbuster figures, the film remains to have a highly negative review on Rotten tomatoes with a 29 percent overall score.
If you feel that Snyder should be out of the Justice League movies, head here to sign the petition.
