Dami Im breezed through the Eurovision 2016 second semis to the grand final. While fan votes played a role, it is her stellar performance, her strong vocals, her stage presence and her song itself that helped her make Australia proud.
Dami Im will battle contestants from Latvia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Serbia, Poland, Israel, Lithuania, and Belgium who aced the second semis too. They will be joined by contestants from the first semis. These singers are from Azerbaijan, Russia, The Netherlands, Hungary, Croatia, Malta, Austria, Armenia, Czech Republic, and Cyprus. They will compete with current winners — Sweden and the Big Five (UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain) in the grand final on the May 14, reveals Mirror.
Her recent win has made Im an even more popular bet among bookies. Bookmakers have placed Im in the second position, just behind Russia. Im was previously the fourth favourite among bookmakers and fifth on Spotify’s winners’ list.
According to News.com.au, Im’s stellar performance received an amazing response at the song competition. Her Sia-esque ballad includes sky-high notes, which she easily aced. Her stage performance started with her sitting on a box.
Special effects were used to make it look like a computer screen. She was then brought down to the stage where she finished her song.
Daily Mail states that Im’s vocals were supported by her look that added an impact to the whole performance. She wore a Steven Khalil creation and dazzled on stage in her raven locks, heels, and pink lipstick.
She is thankful to her Dami Army and Australians who travelled to the venue for their support. “I was actually quite nervous before the performance but the people in the room were amazing, they were a really enthusiastic crowd,” said Im. “I’m quite competitive, I want to win this for Australia. Obviously ,the other contestants want to win as well, but I’m confident and I’m going to give it my best,” she added.
