Manchester United will play Liverpool in the 2nd leg of the Europa League Round of 16 at the Old Trafford on Thursday, March 17, starting 8 pm local time.
According to the BBC reports, the Red Devils would like to turn around things from a two-goal deficit at Anfield and gain a positive result in their own backyard. At least, the home support would be a big boost to Louis Van Gaal’s side who are desperately looking to put behind a string of poor performance.
“It starts with the players, of course, but it starts also with the fans. They have a lot of impact on the pitch,” said Dutchman Van Gaal.
“We have to believe in it,” stated Van Gaal. “I have spoken only with the players about the victory.
“We always owe to the fans a big result because the fans are paying to see that. We have to deliver.”
The United team are known for their comebacks. That was proven as the Reds came back from a 2-1 loss to FC Midjylland and sealing their fate with a 5-1 win at Old Trafford in the second leg.
According to the official UEFA reports, this is Liverpool’s best chance of taking a shot at the Europa League title.
“We know about the job we have to do,” said Jurgen Klopp. “We will try to play similar or more intensive.
“I am absolutely optimistic [that my team will put in a good performance]. We know that we know how to play them.
“It was a good night for us last week. But at the same time, it’s only halfway. We’ll go into the game confident we can finish the job.”
Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger won’t be able to start proceedings at Old Trafford. Liverpool midfielder James Milner will be returning in the 2nd leg.
