South Africa will host England at the Kings Mead Cricket Ground in Durban in the first test match starting from Dec 26, Boxing Day, to Dec 30.
Coming back from a disastrous test series in India, South Africa is looking to turn things around in their own backyard. Taking on the English side is not an easy task especially after their comprehensive one-day series victory against Pakistan in UAE.
Both teams have tasted similar results in the shorter formats of the game in their previous tournaments, winning comprehensively in both ODI and T20 series. But the longer formats of the game have been rather dismal for both the teams visiting two sub-continent countries.
India tormented South Africa on spinning turfs, and Alastair Cook and his boys didn’t perform upto their potential after their first test in UAE versus Pakistan.
As per the Telegraph reports, “England’s players are staying, not in a hotel, but in the sports academy right next to the cricket ground at Senwes Park. It is where Spain’s footballers trained in 2010 before going on to win the World Cup in South Africa.”
Conditions in South Africa will be entirely different and facing the raging Dale Steyn on his home soil will be difficult. One of the biggest worries for England is that James Anderson has been sidelined due to injury, as per the Independent reports.
A minor calf injury right from the start of their tour in South Africa turned out to be a major problem for the ace bowler.
Ben Stokes who received a freak injury while playing in UAE is also not certain but coach Trevor Bayliss is optimistic about his comeback in the test squad.
It will be interesting to see two of the top teams colliding with brute force. Stay tuned for more updates.
