Empire co-stars Trai Byers and Grace Gealey exchanged wedding vows in a private beach ceremony held in Grand Cayman Island on Thursday.
The under-the-radar gathering included an intimate reception where guests were treated to steak and lobster. A lot of dancing to hip-hop, disco and reggae tunes also ensued. TMZ reports the wedding was attended by 50 family members and close friends.
‘It was a beautiful wedding filled with family and close friends,” a source told E! News. “Some cast members from Empire were there. Grace looked stunning.”
Grace Gealey and Trai Byers first met while filming Empire. Gealey played Anika Calhoun, the young stepmother of Byers’ Andre Lyon. According to Us Weekly, there’s was instant attraction between the pair and everyone working on the show was aware of their romance.
They’ve been an item ever since, and announced their engagement in July last year.
The newlywed couple kept much of their relationship in private. During a previous guest appearance in FABLife, 31-year-old Grace Gealey gushed about her relationship with Trai Byers, who’s only a year older than her.
“I think that if you do get involved at your workplace you have to know that this is something that you want to be invested in, and this is just not just something that is frivolous and fleeting,” Gealey said. She added that she’s not a fan of flings at work, indicating that her relationship with Byers was serious from the get-go.
Meanwhile, Fox’s Empire continues to top TV ratings despite its downhill slope since November. Preliminary national estimates from Nielsen indicate that the show took home an average rating of 3.8 with around 10 million viewers.
As if Empire fans have not had enough wedding news in one sitting, showrunner Ilene Chaiken recently announced that an engagement and a wedding can be expected this seaso. Bets are on Cookie and Lucious rekindling their relationship or possibly young lovebirds Hakeen and Laura, who’ve upgraded their relationship by finally exchanging I love yous.
