Fans of “Empire” are eagerly waiting on what will happen to Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) in season three.

Executive producer Sanaa Hamri hinted that although Cookie continues to support Lucious, it is possible that there will be no rekindling of romance this season.

Hamri told TV Guide  that there is a deep emotional connection between the former couple since they have children together. However, Cookie feels that Lucious marriage to Anika (Grace Gealey) is more than symbolic and she decided to stay away.

Spoilers indicated that Lucious will continue to try his best to show Cookie that the marriage with Anika was against his will.

Hamri also hinted of a possible revenge coming this season. “I don’t know what she’s going to do, but Cookie is always going to come back with a vengeance… She’s still co-CEO of Empire. Does she give up Empire? Does she clap back? That’ll be fun to watch,” she teased.

Meanwhile, showrunner Ilene Chaiken added Cookie is the type of woman who will continue fighting for her sons. Chaiken said the protection of her family will be her focus this season.

It can be recalled that season two concluded with a major cliffhanger. In the finale of season two, someone fell off the balcony. It could be Anika or Rhonda (Katlin Doubleday).  The two had a catfight at the balcony that led to a tragic incident. One of the women eventually fell to her death. It is still unknown whether it was Rhonda or Anika.

The cast and shows’ executives remain mum on who will die when “Empire”season three premieres in September. However, Chaiken teased that the character who fell over the balcony might not survive. Many also speculate that if it is Anika, there could be a chance that Cookie and Lucious will reunite.

It was also teased that more deaths are coming in the third installment of FOX hit series and it will be a battle between “dark and light.”

“Empire” season 3 will premiere on September 21 at 9:00 p.m. on FOX.
