‘Empire’ Season 2 Trailer Reveals Cookie Visits Prison; New Music & Cast Revealed [Video]

Fox just released a new trailer for “Empire” season 2 and it offers hints on what fans could expect from the hit drama series.

The theme for the upcoming season is all about “new music, new money, new power, and new empire,” Variety described. The teaser had no dialogue but words flash as scenes for the upcoming season are shown.

The 30-second footage features Terrance Howard’s character, Lucious, now behind bars and clad in an orange jumpsuit. The rapper turned Empire records founder was facing murder charges at the end of “Empire” season 1.

In the season 2 teaser, his ex-wife Cookie Lyon (Taraji Henson) was seen visiting him in prison. Cookie is seen glancing at Lucious while sitting in the jail’s visitation area.

Hollywood Reporter wrote Cookie and Anika (Grace Gealy) are also seen in the footage walking side-by-side through the offices of Empire Records. Cookie was also seen in a cage and holding a golden microphone, looking like it will be for a performance.

The first glimpse into the new season also features Lucious’ son, Jamal (Jussie Smollett), taking charge of the family business while his father is in jail. He was also seen performing at an outdoor “FreeLucious” concert.

“Empire” season 2 will feature appearances by Kelly Rowland as Lucious’ mom in a flashback, Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, and Adam Rodriguez as Cookie’s new love interest, E! Online reported. Marisa Tomei will also have a recurring role in the show.

Last month, “Empire” creator Lee Daniels said filming on season 2 had started, and shared a video of Chris Rock, who was on set at Chicago’s Cook County Juvenile Detention Center, the Daily Mail reported.

“Empire” season 2 will also have 18 episodes with a mid-season finale in the winter, the Daily Mail added. The first season only had 12 episodes.

“Empire” season 2 will premiere on Fox on September 23.
