Mr. Robot might have just debuted last year, but the hit USA Network series has already received much critical acclaim. It even got an Emmy Awards nomination for Most Outstanding Drama. Will the show really take home a statuette this year? Will it really beat last year’s Best Drama, Game of Thrones?
The Primetime Emmy Awards won’t take place for another two months. But TV critics are already weighing in on this year’s set of nominees. Who do they think will triumph over other shows this year?
Observer predicts Mr. Robot would take the coveted prize home. She did admit, though, that either Game of Thrones or Downton Abbey can still beat the newcomer in this category. However, she still believes Mr. Robot “outmatched all these other series on a pure story basis.”
Mancuso’s fellow Observer.com critic Dana Schwartz, on the other hand, thinks Game of Thrones will win again this year. However, she did admit a victory for the epic HBO series might be a bit “boring.”
Meanwhile, Indie Wire disagreed with the two of them. Travers does think either show could win it all this year. However, he has an entirely different bet for this category: the FX series, The Americans.
Which TV critic will prove correct come September? Fans might have to wait around a while longer to find out. The Americans, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey and Mr. Robot all face some serious competition this year, though. These shows are up against Better Call Saul, the spin-off of two-time Emmy Best Drama, Breaking Bad. Also nominated in this category are Homeland and House of Cards.
The Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 18. Meanwhile, watch this space for more updates.
