However, her fans need not worry. The “Harry Potter” star said she will be stepping back from the Hollywood spotlight for a year only. Watson announced she is taking a break from making films to focus on her “personal development.”
“My own personal task is to read a book a week, and also to read a book a month as part of my book club. I’m doing a huge amount of reading and study just on my own,” Watson told American author and feminist, Bell Hooks, for the Paper magazine.
She admitted that she battled to separate herself from her “Harry Potter” character, Hermione Granger, and she has been struggling to find her own identity after the success of the series.
“I started reading Harry Potter when I was 8 – I just really identified with her. I was the girl in school whose hand shot up to answer the questions. I was really eager to learn in an uncool way. In a super uncool way, actually… It was such a delicate time – I was 10 or 11 when the first movie came out – I was trying to figure out what my own identity was, but I didn’t really have one yet,” Watson told Hooks.
“At first, I was really trying to say, ‘I’m not like Hermione. I’m into fashion and I’m much cooler than she is,’ and then I came to a place of acceptance,” she added.
The 25-year-old actress also wants to give more time to her advocacy during her hiatus from Hollywood. Currently, Watson is the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and works with the United Nations HeForShe gender-equality project, Mirror noted.
In May 2014, Emma graduated from Ivy League university Brown with a degree in English Literature, Woman’s Day noted. Earlier this year, she also started an online book club, called “Our Shared Self,” which now has over 110,500 members and is open to readers all over the world.
Meanwhile, Watson starred in the movie “Colonia.” She played a character who voluntarily joined a dictator’s cult to be with the person she loves. The movie is about to hit theatres in the United States on April 15, 2016. It debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2015.
