PBS’ “Downton Abbey” went out with a big bang. The show finale garnered its highest viewership so far plus the “Downton Abbey” theme song too got a reboot of sorts from Grammy Award-winner, John Legend. Legend appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and presented his take on the song, with lyrics and all.
Tux-clad Legend sat at a piano to perform the song about “Downton Abbey.” The hilarious reboot song consists of lyrics which describe the characters as succinctly as possible. For instance, at one point, the song features a photograph of Dowager Countess of Grantham. The corresponding lyrics go, “Grandmamma is always such a witch … ” reveals Billboard.
The “Downton Abbey” finale was telecast on Sunday night and the episode was viewed by 9.6 million viewers, reports Deadline. This is 1.2 million more viewers than those who had watched the Season 5 finale. Also, around 66,400 tweets about the show were generated by its fans, an almost 7.5 million impression for the show.
Deadline elaborates that “Downton Abbey’s” Season 6 also gets the title of being ‘the most streamed season of the series.’ Season 6 has a record of 12.4 million streams across all PBS digital platforms as of March 8.
“Downton Abbey” is a historical British period drama chronicling the events of Crawley family. The show was set in 1912 and was created by Julian Fellowes. The stellar cast consisted of Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Rob James-Collier, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol, Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton, Kevin Doyle and Allen Leech.
However, Abbey fans need not be dejected. ANN had reported that PBS Masterpiece announced a new drama series entitled “Victoria.” The miniseries will be aired during the “Downton Abbey” Sunday time slot starting in 2017. “Victoria” will star ex-Doctor Who companion Jenna Coleman and the show will throw light on the life of a teenager who became the most powerful woman in the world.
