A lot has been said and speculated when it comes to “Doctor Who’s” Peter Capaldi getting a new companion. If the recent tweets are anything to go by, the doctor has already found one. The new assistant will be revealed on Saturday, April 23.
Fans and the media have been speculating about the Clara Oswald replacement ever since Jenna Louise Coleman bid adieu to the show. Some claimed it was going to be “EastEnders” star Rakhee Thakrar. After all, she had some time free after quitting that show. Some even speculated that the new assistant was going to be an alien.
However, according to Radio Times, the new companion will be revealed at half time on BBC One’s “Match of the Day” Live during the Manchester United vs Everton FA Cup semi-final. The semis will take place on BBC1 this Saurday. The publication elaborates that the “Match of the Day” kicks off at 4:50 p.m. while the game commences at 5:15 p.m. This means that the half time will be around 6 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.
Screen Rant believes that the announcement is timely given that the Time Lord was mourning the loss of his Clara during the final few episodes “Doctor Who” Season 9. It would have been inappropriate to immediately introduce a new character then because his solo episodes were shot already.
Also, everyone is interested to know who the new assistant would be. It only made sense to stretch that suspense for some time till the most appropriate replacement or a twist was finalised. While Thakrar was the most discussed name, there never was any official announcement as such.
Current “Doctor Who” Peter Capaldi had teased the new assistant earlier, reveals Screen Rant. “I know who that is and we’ve been doing a bit of work together already and it’s very exciting,” he said. But he did not reveal the gender, allowing fans to get creative about it.
All that is about to end on Saturday. Stay tuned.
