Doctor Who Season 10 won’t premiere for another year. But fans have already begun guessing what the show’s next chapter would be about. They have started speculating about everything from story arcs to shoot locations, from guest actors to guest directors.

However, one persistent rumor suggests that Season 9’s Doctor, Peter Capaldi, would be replaced by the show’s first female Time Lord. Below, we round up all the stars who would make an excellent female Doctor in the BBC science-fiction series.

1. Helena Bonham Carter

Fans all know how singular and talented this former Harry Potter star is. She could come on board as the next Time Lord since, as Observer.com pointed out, “the world needs more Helena Bonham Carter.” However, that’s not the only thing that makes her worthy of the part. Bonham Carter made a career out of playing “quirky and eccentric” characters. She’s proven time and again that she has enough talent and gravitas to take on the role of the Doctor.

2. Maisie Williams

Williams has made a guest appearance on Doctor Who before. Could producers possibly tap the Game of Thrones star to become their next Doctor?

The young Emmy Award nominee did say she’s not going to return to the show. But she could always change her mind.

3. Gwendoline Christie

Williams isn’t the only Game of Thrones star who could fit right into the world of Doctor Who, though. Christie has had a lot of science fiction projects in the past. That could prove useful for her.

4. Helen Mirren

Some fans might think this Oscar winner might be too old for this part. But, as Capaldi proved, “an ‘older’ actor can play the Time Lord.”

5. Gillian Anderson

Could she take a break from American Gods to star in Doctor Who Season 10? No word as of yet to confirm this.
