South Korean actor Song Joong-Ki has reached new heights of fame following the success of his latest Korean drama series Descendants of the Sun, but it appears the actor is not happy with all the attention now surrounding him.
The 31-year-old actor revealed that he was upset with how the media has exposed details about his family at the height of the popularity of Descendants of the Sun. A photo of Song Joong-Ki’s former girlfriend also made rounds online.
“To say that these are things I need to endure for the sake of celebrity … that’s sad,” Song Joong-Ki said, as quoted by Straits Times. “I want to respectfully request that my private life remains private.”
With that said, is Song Joong-Ki ready to step out of the limelight? Not exactly. Although the Descendants of the Sun male lead was upset about the loss of his privacy, he’s not going away just yet.
Song Joong-Ki is, in fact, scheduled to shoot the upcoming film Detective Hong Gil-dong. He will also join co-stars So Ji-Sub and Hwang Jung-Min in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province to film another film entitled Battleship Island. Filming for Battleship Island will begin in mid-July.
According to Kpop Herald, the company producing Battleship Island will build the film set on the former US Army base, Camp Page. Seventy percent of the movie will be filmed in Chuncheon. The movie is based on the real-life Hashima Island and the 400 people who fought against forced labor during the Japanese occupation of South Korea.
Doing Battleship Island is reportedly a dream come true for the actor who told reporters that he wanted to a “period piece” set during the Japanese occupation period.
“With this film, I’ve checked out one longtime goal,” Song said.
Aside from upcoming movie bookings, Song Joong-Ki is also the face of multiple brand endorsements, making it unlikely for him to take a break from showbiz anytime soon. Moreover, his hard work and efforts are paying off. He is nominated for the Best Male Actor in TV category in the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards, to be held this June 3.
