Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama have split after being together for almost six years. The former lovers shared the shocking news with fans on social media on Friday, June 3. But is this really the end of their relationship?

According to E! News, Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama both posted the same message on Instagram, saying they’re ending their relationship because they were better off as “best friends.”

“After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship,” Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama said in a joint statement. “This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years.”

But a Hollywood Life source revealed that this split may not be final. It appears that Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama are trying to figure things out in the love department separately until they will realize that what they really need is each other.

“There is a great great chance that a few years down the line if things don’t work out in [Demi and Wilmer’s] love lives that they would consider getting back together,” the source told the site. “This is the one relationship that when they say they are still friends they mean it; it isn’t any Hollywood bullsh*t. It just has currently run its course and they have to try something else, but they are smart enough to know that trying something else may lead them back together.”

Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama raised eyebrows over their 13-year age difference when they began dating when the former Disney star was only 18. But she has previously praised the actor for supporting her through multiple trips to rehab for addiction issues.

For now, fans will just have to wait and see if Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama are going to remain as best friends or this is just a phase and they’ll get back together sooner than later.
