“Dancing with the Stars” premiered season 22 on Monday. However, fans will likely notice the absence of one of their favourite celebrity pairs.
Did Derek Hough decide to pack up his dancing shoes? Did the show favour Len Goodman over Julianne at the judges’ panel?
Heavy.com revealed that Derek and Julianne Hough would not appear on “Dancing with the Stars” season 22.
The website cited news from People about why the two are no longer on the show.
To date, it is not known if either Hough will guest on DWTS this season. However, Julianne’s response to DWTS producer Rob Wade seemed telling.
“Julianne will always be a part of the Dancing with the Stars family and we hope to see her back in the ballroom in the future,” Wade told PEOPLE.
“I promise it’s not the last you’ll see of me in the ballroom,” Hough replied.
As early as February, Julianne told People that she won’t be returning “Dancing with the Stars”.
“I will miss being on the panel for Season 22, but have a lot of exciting stuff coming that I look forward to sharing,” the star of “Grease Live” told People then.
“The pro dancers, producers and crew at DWTS will always be my family,” she added.
Len Goodman will take up her seat at the judges’ panel. Goodman is a professional dancer and dance teacher according to his judge biography on ABC. He was head judge on “Strictly Come Dancing”, the UK version of DWTS.
Goodman left the judges’ table after 10 years due to the birth of his new grandson. His schedule as a judge on the UK dance show was also a factor.
Her brother, Derek, also stepped away from the dance floor. The fan pro favourite is headed for Broadway, People reported in a separate post.
Entertainment Weekly revealed earlier that Derek would step into the shoes of Gene Kelly for Harvey Weinstein’s “Singin’ in the Rain”.
Derek also posted this IG post. The caption read, “Proud to be a part of another adventure with The Weinstein Company.
