‘Dancing With The Stars’: Geraldo Rivera Dances as Donald Trump, Gets Eliminated

Geraldo Rivera and Edyta Sliwinska were the first pair eliminated from Season 22 of “Dancing With The Stars” on Monday. Veteran journalist Rivera was eliminated after an unimpressive debut.

The debut earned him the lowest score on the leaderboard in the season premiere, says TV Line.

According to votes, the bottom three consisted of Mischa Barton and Artem Chigvintsev, Rivera and Sliwinska, and Doug Flutie and Karina Smirnoff. Monday’s broadcast gave out a few performances that were brilliant, and a few that were totally cheerless.

He scored just a total of 13 out of 30 points the first week. Before the elimination, Rivera was confident he would be put off and tweeted, “Can’t believe I stunk up the place again!”

“Fabulous and patient and talented and charismatic,” he said about Sliwinska. However, he seemed to agree with the result, saying: “If I didn’t get eliminated tonight I would have demanded a recount.”

Rivera’s Donald Trump-inspired salsa drew laughter from the judges and ballroom audience.  But the strong effort made him go back at the bottom of the leaderboard.

He wore a bouffant blond wig, a colorful shirt and a spray tan, while playing Trump. His partner, Sliwinska, appeared as Trump’s wife, Melania.

Feedback from the judges were filled with puns, says The ABC.

“Unfortunately, you did not make dance great again but you did make me laugh,” Inaba told the veteran journalist.

Head judge Len Goodman said out that the word “trumpery” to described what Rivera did. The word “trumpery” means something without use or value or simply trash.

However, he appreciated Rivera by saying that as a nondancer, Rivera was giving it his full effort.

Paige VanZant and Alan Bersten (Salsa) were the best of the night. VanZant bought out immense confidence and fire to her smart movements.

She made it easy for the viewers to forget that she had only been working with Bersten for just a day. Judges gave them a score of 24 out of 30.
