Fans expect Criminal Minds season 12 to premiere as scheduled on September 28. However, a recent altercation behind the scenes could lead to its delay. Yet, would it also result in a major shakeup that could change the face of the show for good?

News of its renewal arrived as audiences savored the finale of season 11. Hence, fans welcomed the announcement as it meant more episodes to come from the popular crime drama series. The entrance of a new BAU agent adds to the anticipation for Criminal Minds season 12. Then again, fans remain hopeful that it would also bring back Shemar Moore to reprise his role as agent Derek Morgan.

Production is reportedly underway for the new season. However, the action seemed to happen behind the scenes instead.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed the scuffle between Thomas Gibson who plays Special Agent Aaron Hotchner and a writer/producer of the show. The problem stemmed from their creative differences yet it soon became physical. Hence, would the recent incident on set see the departure of yet another longstanding cast member? The actor released a statement about the unfortunate episode.

“There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement. I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and we always will,” Gibson relayed to EW.

Apparently, this was not the first time the actor got into trouble behind the scenes. TMZ recalled Gibson attended anger management classes in 2010 following an incident with an assistant director then. This time around, he received a suspension. Moreover, he lost directorial assignments in the upcoming season. His future on the series is reportedly under evaluation.

Gibson’s character plays a significant role in the series. Moreover, he has been with Criminal Minds from the very start. Hence, could it even be possible to replace him?

What would happen to Criminal Minds season 12 without SSA Aaron Hotchner?
