Criminal Minds Season 12 will premiere Wednesday night amidst the firing of one of its main actors last month.
The FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is down with two agents this season – SSA Hotch and Agent Derek Morgan. How will the team run after serial killers?
Criminal Minds Season 12 will pick up few months after a group of 13 convicts escaped from jail. FBI’s Fugitive Task Force Leader Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) will join the BAU to help the team catch the five prisoners who are still at large. Over the summer, Alvez apprehended the other eight.
Alvez will join the FBI profiling team as Derek Morgan’s (Shemar Moore) replacement. Of course no one can replace Morgan – at least to Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness). No one could call her “Baby Girl” in the sweetest possible way like him. Criminal Minds executive producer Erica Messer earlier told TV Line that the viewers should tune in to see what Garcia thinks of the new guy joining the team.
Meanwhile, Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) will come back to BAU from her stint at the Interpol. She will lead the team after Hotch left.

Another character who will return in Criminal Minds Season 12 is Spencer Reid’s mother. Jane Lynch will reprise her role as Reid’s (Matthew Gray Gubler) schizophrenic mother Dr. Diana Reid. Diana was last seen in Season 4.
Finally, fans are also eager to see how Thomas Gibson, who plays BAU team leader Aaron “Hotch” Hotchner, will exit the series. Apparently, this will happen in Episode 3. How the show will play this out remains under wraps. Gibson was fired after he allegedly assaulted the show’s producer/writer Virgil Williams.
In an interview with People magazine, the actor explained his side of the story. “It seems like they’re trying to erase me from the show. That hurts … My pride and reputation are hurt, but in the end I know the good work is what people will remember. I just need more opportunities to do good work and be a good guy,” he said.
