“Criminal Minds” Season 11 will air its final episode entitled “The Storm” on May 4, Wednesday at 9 p.m. on CBS. The live stream broadcast is available at CBS All Access. The finale offers something different in the show’s history and the ending will likely surprise fans.
Although Season 12 of “Criminal Minds” is yet to be confirmed, showrunner Erica Messer revealed that the Season 11 finale paves the way for a “refreshing start,” TV Line reported.
“It’s a very team-centric episode, because ‘stuff’ is hitting the fan and we’re at the center of it, and we’re doing a [finale] cliffhanger of sorts, which we haven’t done in forever. It’s not a ‘bomb goes off/who survives?’ cliffhanger, but, ‘Oh my god, we thought we won,’ and by the end it’s, ‘Oh no, we’re just getting started.’ It’s a really fun, fresh way to launch into Season 12.”
Nellie Andreeva of the Deadline earlier wrote that “Criminal Minds” was the “highest-profile” exception on the CBS list of shows up for renewal. Andreeva cited the steep production costs incurred by the network as a possible deterrent to Season 12. At the same time, Andreeva noted the network could be waiting for the outcome of its spinoff “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” before it makes a decision.
However, fans of “Criminal Minds” should remain hopeful as Andreeva also revealed CBS and ABC studios are working on a new license deal given the show’s solid performance. ABC co-produces the TV series and reportedly reaps most of the benefits.
News spoilers about the finale earlier suggested an open-ended climax for the police procedural crime drama. A sneak peek into “The Storm” hinted at the possibility that Hotch might have been “swatted,” Buddy TV revealed. “Swatting” is an extreme prank wherein someone fakes a 911 call on his or her opponent. Hence, SWAT responds to the report of a threat, the publication explained.
