The stage is set for an epic clash. The South American Champions will pitched against the Catalans when they battle it out for the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup 2015 in Japan.
Barcelona scripted a thumping 3-0 victory against the Asian Champions Guangzhou Evergrande FC in the second semi-final of the Club World Cup to set up a final clash against River Plate. River Plate too registered a marginal 1-0 win against the Sanfrecce Hiroshima to become the first team to reach the finals.
The final clash has been scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 20, at the Yokohoma International Stadium in Japan starting 10:20 AM GMT. According to Bleacher Report, two of the best teams are competing for the title as Japan is likely to observe an intriguing climax to the title campaign.
Both Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. were not part of the playing XI in Thursday’s semi-final clash. But that didn’t stop the Catalans and surely not Luis Suarez. With his phenomenal injection of pace and agility, the South American star pumped a hat-trick to see his side through to the Finals.
Barcelona are not taking River Plate lightly. “There will be rivalry with River in the final,” exclaimed Suarez.
“They are an opponent who have won the Copa Libertadores and they are a strong side. They are one of the biggest clubs in South America. It will be a nice final and spectacular to watch and hopefully we can bring the Club World Cup home.”
According to the New York Times reports, Barcelona are hot favorites to win the title even though Messi and Neymar won’t be a part of the squad. Suarez is expected to replicate his performance in the finals too.
The odds are heavily stacked in favor of the Catalans, but you never know in Football.
