Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suited up for Marvel “Civil War 2.”

It looks like “Civil War 2” has the Canadian team on its side as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is the alternate cover of the Marvel comic book “Civil War 2: Choosing Sides,” The Chronicle Herald reported. Toronto-based cartoonist Ramon Perez wanted the prime minister to look like an “everyday person.” Hence, his boxing gear with Maple Leaf emblem and members of the Canadian Alpha Flight team surrounding him. The alternate cover features Iron Man in the background. The main cover shows the same Canadian superhero squad of Puck, Sasquatch, and Aurora with Nick Fury, the publication noted.

“I didn’t want to do a stuffy cover — just like a suit and tie — put his likeness on the cover and call it a day,” Perez explained.

“I wanted to kind of evoke a little bit of what’s different about him than other people in power right now. You don’t see (U.S. President Barack) Obama strutting around in boxing gear, doing push-ups in commercials or whatnot. Just throwing him in his gear and making him almost like an everyday person was kind of fun,” he added. Amazingly, the prime minister “looks even better in ink form,” Mashable wrote.

Interestingly, Trudeau’s seems to follow his late father’s “prime ministerial” example, the Huffington Post wrote. Pierre Trudeau appeared in the 1979 “Uncanny X-Men” comic, the publication recalled. The idea to recruit Justin Trudeau for the issue was the brainchild of Edmonton-born artist and writer Chip Zdarsky. Apparently, the prime minister was the easier choice.

“I kind of figured to do a story about Canada right now and not take that opportunity to put Trudeau in seemed like a waste. He seems to be the popular culture association with Canada right now, right behind Drake — and I probably couldn’t get Drake in the comic,” Zdarsky said. An endorsement for the comic from Trudeau’s office is unlikely, he’s hopeful Trudeau might call and talk about it.

“Hopefully, I did a good job. Maybe I’ll get a call from him saying: ‘How could you have me saying that to … Iron Man?”’ he said. Marvel “Civil War 2: Choosing Sides” Issue No. 5 with Trudeau on the cover comes out on August 31.
