Carpool Karaoke has proven to be one of the Late, Late Show‘s most popular segments. Many famous celebrities have sat on the passenger seat of James Corden’s car by now. However, none of them had been as VIP as the First Lady of the United States herself. What happened in the Carpool Karaoke Michelle Obama stint?
Obama has been making headlines recently. Or rather, her name has been all anyone can talk about since Melania Trump allegedly mirrored a 2008 speech by Obama in her own speech for the Republican National Convention’s opening night. The wife of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has since denied accusations of plagiarism.
The current U.S. President’s wife has yet to address the issue. Did she use her guesting on the popular late night talk show to snap back?
Mrs. Obama went with Corden on his tour of the White House grounds. She talked about her daughters, her education initiatives, and grilled cheese sandwiches with Corden. But she didn’t mention Trump in her Carpool Karaoke appearance. This makes sense since the segment was recorded earlier and Trump’s speech gaffe only happened a few days ago.
According to US Weekly, America’s First Lady instead chose to show off her impressive singing range. Corden and Obama sang everything from Beyonce’s Single Ladies to Missy Elliott’s Get Ur Freak On. Missy Elliott herself dropped by in the back seat to join their drive around the presidential estate.
Corden and Obama also sang Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours. Stevie Wonder is the First Lady’s favorite singer. He’s also among the previous guests on Carpool Karaoke. Missy Elliott, on the other hand, earlier wrote This Is for My Girls, which served as the theme song for the First Lady’s education campaign.
Meanwhile, according to CNN, the Trump campaign will not be firing anybody in connection to Melania Trump’s apparent plagiarism. Parts of Mrs. Trump’s speech earlier this week seems to have been lifted from a speech Obama gave during the Democratic National Convention eight years ago.
