‘Captain America Civil War’ Movie: Ronda Rousey Cast as Ms Marvel? ‘I’d Like To’ Says UFC Champ

UFC fighter Ronda Rousey expressed her interest in joining the Marvel universe to play the role of Ms. Marvel.

During a Reddit AMA session, Rousey was asked which superhero she would like to play in a movie. The UFC champ replied, “Well, a lot of the good ones have been taken, but I’d like to vie for Miss Marvel.”

According to MMA Mania, other celebrities who were rumored to be the frontrunners for the role as Ms. Marvel are two-time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain, Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt, Golden Globe nominee Bryce Dallas Howard, and Katheryn Winnick.

Rousey is currently the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. She also recently won the ESPY 2015 Best Fighter award.

Aside from her mixed martial arts title, Rousey has also proven her skills in the big screen. She appeared in three films – “Furious 7,” “The Expendables 3,” and a cameo as herself on “Entourage.”

The “Furious 7” is her most notable role so far, where she showed off her skills in an intense fight with Michelle Rodriguez’s character Letty, Cinema Blend noted.

Before Ronda vies for the role of Captain Marvel, also known Ms. Marvel , she is also set to film action movie “Mile 22,” which stars Mark Wahlberg.

The standalone movie for Carol Danvers, a.k.a. “Captain Marvel,” is set to be released on of July 6, 2018. Fox Sports noted if this pushes through as planned, it will be the first female-led superhero film from Marvel.

Fox Sports quoted Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige saying, “This film has been in the works almost as long as “Doctor Strange” or “Guardians of the Galaxy” before it came out … and one of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it. Her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm.”

“Captain Marvel” is being written by Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman. There are also several notable names being considered to direct the movie, including Angelina Jolie, Fox Sports added.
