Brad Pitt suicide rumor has been swirling the internet following the confirmation that wife Angelina Jolie has filed a divorce this week.
A report indicated that the A-list actor committed suicide in a shooting range, presumably due to depression that allegedly triggered by the divorce.
The Brad Pitt suicide rumor first came out on Facebook. The report however was found to be a hoax. According to Snopes, the FB post was a malicious hoax aimed at stealing personal details from social media users. The viral post seems like it was from legitimate news agency since it has a heading of “FOX Breaking News.” However, clicking the link leads to a permission request from the malicious Fox News app to access the users’ profile.
Several celebrities have been victim of death hoax reports in the past months. Last month, Jolie herself had fallen victim of the same site that posted a death hoax report about her husband. The same clickbait web site is allegedly responsible for creating the death hoax reports of Jaden Smith, Vin Diesel, Nicolas Cage, Jim Carrey, Sylvester Stallone and John Cena. All posts have proven to be false.
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt already gave his statement about the divorce. The actor said he is very saddened by the divorce and asked the media to give them space during this time.
Jolie filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences.”
There have been speculations that the actress filed for divorce after learning that Pitt was cheating with actress Marion Cotillard. Jolie allegedly hired a private investigator to spy on Pitt.
The couple’s divorce papers listed the date of separation as September 15. It also indicated that Jolie is also seeking physical custody of their six children. The Hollywood A-list couple has six kids – two were adopted and three are their biological children. She however is also asking the judge to give Pitt visitation rights. Jolie is not seeking spousal support.
