In what can only be good news for the “Bourne” movie franchise fans, Matt Damon is returning to the movie series and starts filming for his renowned role next week. The buzz about “Bourne 5” plot has also been garnering much attention and Damon may just have given fans a glimpse.
In an interview with BuzzFeed, Damon shared what the movie’s setting will be.
“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon said.
“It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”
Commenting on the gap of over 6 years and his return to the “Bourne” franchise, Damon said, “We always looked at those movies as really about the Bush presidency, and so we kind of had to wait for the world to change.”
Adding further excitement to the movie, Variety revealed that Vincent Cassel will wear the hat of the antagonist to be pitted against Damon in the fifth installment of the “Bourne” series.
Cassel is known for his role as Thomas Leroy in the movie the “Black Swan” which saw Natalie Portman taking home the Academy Award.
Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander will be new additions to the “Bourne” crew as well, while Julia Stiles will be returning to claim her role as Nicky Parsons, an ex-CIA agent.
As pointed out by Variety, Cassel may take on the role of an assassin who is behind Jason Bourne, in the upcoming movie. The inspiration from the whistle-blower Edward Snowden and its incorporation into the “Bourne” plot will be very interesting to watch.
The first-look and the news on the release date of the movie will be eagerly awaited by the fans.
