FC Augsburg will host Borussia Dortmund in the round 16 of the 2015/16 DFB-Pokal on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the WWK Arena in Augsburg.
Augsburg looks in prime form this season having beat Partizan and Schalke in December securing 10-points from their last four matches in the Bundesliga. They have also qualified for the round of 32 in the UEFA Europa League.
Head coach Markus Weinzierl isn’t taking Dortmund lightly. Even after their victory over Schalke, last weekend, there will be some changes made ahead of their home clash versus Dortmund. Captain Paul Verhaegh returns from suspension which is positive for Augsburg.
The 32-year old right back is one of the most vital players in the team and his return should provide ample confidence, notes Bleacher Report. The visitors registered an easy 4-1 win against Frankfurt in their previous clash on Sunday. Dortmund have lost three of their last six matches and their skill set will be tested against Augsburg.
ESPN FC in their report quotes, “The focus will lie on BVB’s back line once again. Sven Bender has featured next to Mats Hummels in the centre-back position in four out of the last five times. Slowly but surely it seems like the defensive midfielder by trade has surpassed both Neven Subotic and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.”
Beating Augsburg at home won’t be easy for Dortmund. It will be interesting to see how things unfold at the WWK Arena on Wednesday.
Augsburg predicted starting XI: Hitz; Verhaegh, Hong, Klavan, Max; Kohr, Baier; Bobadilla, Trochowski, Ji; Matavz
Dortmund predicted starting XI: Burki; Piszczek, Sokratis, Hummels, Schmelzer; Gundogan, Weigl, Kagawa; Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Castro
