After years of waiting, Gearbox Software has finally announced that they are now developing Borderlands 3.

IGN has the report about the news on the development. It was revealed on Twitter by Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford when he mentioned that “Battleborn” art director Scott Kester will be moving to a next project, as productions for “Battleborn” has finally ended and will be launching on May. The next project was none other than “Borderlands 3.”

It was also mentioned that a “Battleborn” DLC is in the works and will include Borderlands 3 easter eggs. No details were mentioned on which particular DLC will the easter eggs be added.

Gearbox Software has been more open with regard to development of Borderlands 3. Randy Pitchford has been teasing more about the game for some time, making fans speculate that the game is already in development since last year, and some hints include the game will be massive.

However, they are not sure on what they will call the next Borderlands game as it will be the fourth Borderlands. The recent in the franchise is “Borderlands the Pre-Sequel.”

It is possible that the upcoming game will be called Borderlands 4 as part of their traditional joke. The franchise has been known to have a lot of humor.

No release dates were mentioned but expect to see the game for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Meanwhile, the Borderlands movie will be getting a new writer to handle the script for the planned film.

According to Game Informer, it will be Aaron Berg, who is involved in writing Section 6. Berg was recently hired to write for “GI Joe 3.” The Borderlands movie will be handled by Lionsgate and was dubbed as an edgy, rated-R take on the original material.

The said movie will also be produced by Avi and Ari Arad, the father and son duo who were also behind some of the popular superhero movies including Iron Man, Spider-Man and X-Men.

No details have been revealed on the target release date for the movie.
