Blake Shelton revealed details of his new album, titled “If I’m Honest,” including his inspiration.
According to E News, Shelton’s 12th studio album offers fans a glimpse of how he and girlfriend Gwen Stefani got together amidst their respective divorces last year.
“I’ve had a lot of music over the years,” Shelton said about his single “Came Here to Forget.” He added, “But I don’t think I’ve ever had a song before that’s such a direct look into my life.”
Stefani clearly approved of the song. The former “No Doubt” member tweeted a screenshot of Shelton’s track at No. 1 on iTunes’ Top Songs chart. The singer likewise put a heart in the caption.
Shelton re-tweeted his girlfriend post with a “Yeeeeee Haw!!!!!!!!!!!” caption.
“Came Here to Forget” is a story of two people who got connected while trying to forget their former lovers, People magazine wrote. The lyrics of Shelton’s single include a line: “Girl getting over him / And I’m getting over her.”
The country singer broke up with his wife of four years, Miranda Lambert, in July 2015. Stefani, meanwhile, split from her husband of 13 years, Gavin Rossdale, in August. The two, who are both “The Voice” judges/coaches at the time, got closer and a new romance bloomed by fall.
“I can put my life experience, whether it’s a divorce or my new girlfriend, whatever those experiences are, whatever things that are happening in my life, I have an outlet for them. I have music. I can write songs, I can sing about it,” Shelton said.
“If I’m Honest” will be available in music stores on May 20.
Meanwhile, Us Weekly reported that the couple is also expected to release a duet together.
A source confirmed to the magazine that the yet-to-be-released song will likely be included on Shelton’s upcoming album.
Stefani earlier confirmed that the lyrics of her upcoming single, Make Me Like You,” is all about Shelton.
“It is actually. I will admit that that song is about that guy,” she told Jimmy Kimmel when she appeared on appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” recently.
