The Billboard Music Awards 2016 is another big night for the music industry. It is an annual event that acknowledges the artists whose outstanding performances topped the charts last year. The event will take place on May 22 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the Mirror reported.
The Weeknd scored the biggest number of nominations. Billboard revealed that he’s a finalist 19 times in 16 categories. On the other hand, Justin Bieber is next as he’s a finalist 12 times in 11 categories. 2016 is shaping up well for Bieber and this could be an opportunity to win another award. He won Male Artist of the Year at the recent iHeartRadio Music Awards. Prior to that, he won his first Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
Drake and Fetty Wap are tied as finalists 11 times in 10 categories. Adele and Taylor Swift, last year’s big winners, are both nominated for 8 awards, Billboard added.
The late David Bowie’s “Blackstar” received a posthumous nomination for the Top Rock Album category, the Mirror revealed. Meanwhile, One Direction received two nods from Billboard Music Awards 2016 for Best Group/Duo and Best Touring Act. Their album, “Made in the AM,” was not nominated, though, the Mirror noted.
Among the country artists, Sam Hunt leads the pack with four nods, The Boot reported. Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band, and Chris Stapleton received two nominations each for this year’s Billboards.
Ludacris returns to host the show for the third year. His co-host for this year’s awards ceremony is Ciara who took over for Chrissy Teigen. The hosts appeared on Good Morning America to announce the nominees. However, Ciara appeared to have a hard time reading the names, Perez Hilton remarked.
The celebrity gossip site noted that everything was fine until Ciara got to Best Rap Artist. Her ex, Future, was part of the list. Fortunately, Ludacris helped her out in this hiccup and read the list.
