My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2: Five Must-Know Facts About The Sequel

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is the upcoming sequel to the famous film My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which was released in 2002. The sequel is directed by Kirk Jones.

Nia Vardalos again returns as the main lead and the writer for the sequel. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 hits theatres on March 25, 2016.

Here are five things you need to know about the sequel.

The story

The sequel deals with the marital problems between Toula (Nia Vardalos) and Ian (John Corbett). While the running act of another Greek wedding surrounds the story, the married couple tries to attain a resolution.

The story also talks about Toula and Ian’s daughter Paris (Elena Kampouris), who would be going to college soon. A secret from Toula’s past will also be revealed.

The Portokalos would be pushy again

The Portokalos are exceeding their limits more than they have before in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.

According to People’s preview clip of the film, Toula is hoping that Paris will select a school that’s close to home. However, the rest of the Portokalos family is thrusting and may push Paris farther away, says TV Guide.

The sequel was delayed

Vardalos shared the actual reason it took 14 years for the sequel to be made. The reason according to her was a very personal struggle she was going through.

Vardalos disclosed that she went through 13 rounds of IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) treatment and suffered seven miscarriages. She then opted for adoption.

“I felt so embarrassed that I couldn’t have a biological child,” said Vardalos. She said that she wanted to know how it feels to be a mother in reality to write the sequel honestly, says Inquisitor.

“I wouldn’t know the emotions of what to write. I just said, ‘I can’t do it.’.”

The writing started six years back

After Vardalos tried to have a child for 9 years, she got a call for child adoption. She was matched with a 3-year-old, Ilaria. Ilaria is now 11.

She began writing the script for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 on her daughter’s first day of kindergarten. It is clear that Vardalos has actually been working on the sequel for six years.

“I am so grateful and can’t imagine my life without her,” she said.

The cast

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 would contain all of the cast and crew from the first movie. Among the new additions to the cast are Mark Margolis, Rita Wilson, John Stamos and Alex Wolff.

This is the third film that Corbett and Vardalos are in together.
