When Beyonce plugged the promotional video for her special HBO project Lemonade in all her social media outlets, the crowd went nuts. The special project is shrouded in mystery and yet it’s packing a lot of hype.
Not a lot has been said about Beyonce’s new material except that it will be included in HBO’s premiere-heavy weekend slate. Lemonade will run from April 22 to 24. According to TV3, the encore program on the 24th bumps into the highly-anticipated world premiere of the HBO original series Game of Thrones Season 6 not to mention the season premiere of Veep and Silicon Valley which are also included in Sunday night’s lineup.
HBO has also billed Lemonade as a “world premiere event,” but the preview clip doesn’t exactly share a lot about what viewers should expect.
The cryptic promotional clip begins with the words “The past and the present merge to meet us here.” Beyonce then begins to ask a series of questions: “Why can’t you see me? You’re the love of my life. What am I doing, my love?”
It also shows several clips that are presumably taken from her Formation music video.
Queen Bey is also the queen of surprises. Remember how Beyonce surprised fans with the unannounced release of her fifth album in 2013? There are speculations that Lemonade could be a similar affair that would lead us to her much-awaited sixth solo album. Another theory from Mashable is that the hour-long event could be a documentary-style special much like her 2013 HBO documentary Life Is But a Dream which Beyonce executive produced, co-wrote and co-directed.
Other than the eerie video, fans are kept in the dark about Beyonce’s new offering. When The Atlantic asked HBO about possible advanced screeners the network’s representative replied, “Sorry—there is nothing available to screen.”
So is it okay for Beyonce’s Lemonade to temporarily take the spotlight from Game of Thrones Season 6? It seems that fans of Beyonce and GoT are all excited with HBO’s April 24 offerings.
