After J. Randy Taraborrelli dropped his astounding revelation about Rihanna’s alleged affair with Jay Z, Rihanna’s rep has broken his silence on the matter.

At that time of the rumored affair, Rihanna was only 17 years old and her publicist then was Jonathan Hay. He admitted to The New York Daily News that he already made a public apology to Beyonce last Friday.

“I apologized to her … this whole thing is very awkward,” Hay revealed to the site through e-mail.

Beyonce’s newest unauthorized biography entitled, “Becoming Beyonce: The Untold Story”, is set for release on October 27. Its writer, Taraborrelli, claimed that Beyonce and Jay Z separated for a year in 2005 because of Rihanna.

According to Taraborrelli, Rihanna’s rep was responsible for spreading the rumors about the dating affair. He added the Rihanna’s rep wanted to boost the artist’s profile before her single, “Pon de Replay” was released.

Hay did not deny Taraborrelli’s claim. He said that he spread the rumors because he was so desperate. He wanted a big break for the song.

Hay admitted, “It was reckless and I didn’t think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick.”

Beyonce and Jay Z started dating in 2000. Taraborrelli wrote that when the rumors spread about Rihanna and Jay Z, Beyonce “was so upset” that she decided to split up with him for a year.

According to the site, Hay said that he has not yet met up with the writer, Taraborrelli. He only spoke to his researchers.

The New York Daily News notes that Hay is currently working with his label, Urban Hitchcock, through Tidal which is a company owned by Beyonce and Jay Z.

Hay admitted, “Hopefully this news hasn’t ruined that relationship for me… I’m ashamed that I’m even talking about this. I just want to put this rumor to rest once and for all.”
