She finally spelled out the cuss phrase that “Love Yourself” was taken from, crooning out the whole “You should go and f*ck yourself” without even breaking out a sweat.
Halsey, born as Ashley Nicolette Frangipane from New Jersey, started out on YouTube. Her cool, smoky voice lent a sweet, ambient feel to the song, in spite of the undisguised F-word. It’s like Dido meets Lorde with her own angelic, ethereal twist. Halsey is a self-confessed feminist. The beautiful New Jersey native came to the show dressed down in a black shirt and khaki jeans, complete with her hair hidden in a tan baseball cap. She sang the song acoustic, with just minimum percussions and a keyboard as her accompaniment.
