After 10 years of marriage, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have called it quits, announcing their separation a day after their wedding anniversary.
The confirmation came on Tuesday, with the stars and now ex-couple releasing a joint statement.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding,” the statement read, quoted Vanity Fair.
The 42-year-old “Batman vs Superman” actor and the 43-year-old “Dallas Buyers Club” actress have three children and TMZ reveals they will share joint custody of the kids.
The site also noted that they will not immediately file for divorce, “They are working things out with a mediator and business managers, sources tell TMZ. The divorce will be filed when all of the property and custody issues are resolved.“
While the reason for the split has been confirmed, rumors about an impending separation has been making headlines since last year. The couple have kept mum and have been making public appearances together.
However, in a report by the Hollywood Life, a source said that it was Ben’s decision to separate.
“Ben missed being social Ben. He always had to get rid of friends for Jen, he always had to give up being him for Jen. He loved her, he loves her and he will always be grateful for the children they have together, but she ended up being more of a mom than a wife and Ben didn’t want to live that life anymore,” the source said.
It is noted though that in 2013, when Affleck received a Best Picture Oscar for “Argo”, the director confirmed that his marriage “is work.”
“I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s good. It is work but the best kind of work and there’s no one I’d rather work with,” the actor said in his acceptance speech.
Ben and Jen married in 2005 after starring together in “Pearl Harbor” and “Daredevil”.
