Rances Barthelemy and Mickey Bey are both fighting for an elusive belt that once passed through their hands willingly.

For Rances Barthelemy, it was a vacant belt he fought for in a grueling bout against Shafikov. For Mickey Bey, it was the belt he won in the ring but lost out of the ring due to unfinished and unfair business deals.

The road to the IBF Lightweight title has been unusual for both camps, but now they are ready to engage in a war of fists to show who really deserves the title.

Barthelemy’s Lightweight Defense

As the title became vacant, Barthelemy stepped up and fought for it against Denis Shafikov. The Cuban dubs the Shafikov fight as “a really tough fight and definitely a great learning experience.”

As for his title fight against challenger Bey, ESPN quotes him saying “There is no added pressure from it being a title defense. I just want everyone to see the boxing ability that I have so that I can get the big fights that I want and deserve.”

Bey’s Claim To Fame

For Mickey Bey, he’s only in the fight to claim what truly belongs to him. Winning the title in 2014 and never having to defend it, Bey was stripped of the belt against his own will according to the boxing rules. To make things worse, he was also dealing with a hand injury as well as unfair deals that had him signing halfheartedly before backing out.

As Mickey Bey enters the ring, he will either reclaim what was once his or finally lose the belt that he never lost fighting in the ring.

Barthelemy vs Bey Match-up

Coming from Bey’s own mouth, he has fans waiting for a showdown of skills in their title fight. Bey acknowledged Barthelemy’s skills while Rances praised Beys’ extensive amateur background. With these two great fighters with colorful boxing history and skills to boot, spectators are in for a bloody good match.

The IBF Lightweight World Championship for Barthelemy vs Bey is set to happen this Friday, 3 June, 9:00PM ET (Saturday, 4 June, 11:00AM NSW) at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
