AC/DC has welcomed Guns N’ Roses lead singer Axl Rose on stage on its weekend concert in Lisbon, Portugal.
AC/DC had to re-scheduled 10 earlier shows of the “Rock or Bust” tour due to the doctors advise that Brian Johnson must take a break or risk hearing loss, Entertainment Weekly noted.
Last month, Rose announced that he will join AC/DC and will be temporary stand-in back for Johnson. Last Saturday’s event was his first time to take in the post.
Before the performance, Rose told BBC 6 Music : “I’m not here in any way out of any disrespect to Brian. I can’t take anything away from his singing at all. He’s a great singer and it’s really challenging to sing it. I’m just trying to do it justice for the fans.”
Axl Rose promised to do justice to Johnson’s work. He indeed limited his onstage spiels to few words in between songs and some “thank you” afterwards.
The Guardian reported that for this particular show, many expected that Axl Rose will be grandstanding. Instead, he refused to take all the spotlights. Even when the crowd collectively chant of “Axl! Axl!,” Rose responded, “I know what you meant. You meant, ‘Angus!’ Angus!” After he performed “Have a Drink on Me” song, Rose quipped, “I could use a drink. You are a very intimidating bunch.”
Axl Rose also sat on a guitar throne during his entire show. It was earlier reported that the 54-year-old singer broke his foot more than a month ago while performing for Guns N’ Roses‘ first reunion show in Los Angeles.
According to Rolling Stone, the AC/DC with Axl Rose performed a number of old songs including 1980’s “Back and Black,” and some new tracks such as 2008’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll Train.”
