To date, “Avatar” is still the number one highest-grossing film. While everyone’s waiting for the most awaited sequel, director James Cameron dished what fans should expect in part 2.
The first “Avatar” film took 14 years before it made its debut on the big screen, Screen Rant wrote. As mentioned on the site, Cameron is taking his time to work on three film sequels. In creating the full story arc, Cameron is working with four screenwriters.
The four screenwriters are Josh Friedman (“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”), Shane Salerno (“Savages”), and pair Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”). Instead of assigning a part to each writer, Cameron worked with the four writers for the trilogy’s storyline.
Speaking to Montreal Gazette, Cameron said:
“We have design more or less finished, which is an enormous task. It’s been about a two-year task. (We’ve finished) all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see. The writing is ongoing, but almost finished. Technical development is done. Stages are done. Infrastructure. So we’re really poised to start after the first of the year.”
In his recent interview, the Canadian filmmaker confirmed that “Avatar 2” will likely be shown on the big screen in 2017. Moreover, he plans to drop the sequels a year apart.
“Christmas of ’17 is the target. At least, that’s what we’ve announced. But I don’t consider that to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart. I call it a meta-narrative that runs across the three movies. Each film stands alone, but it also tells one much larger story.”
According to Screen Rant, Cameron plans to shoot at a high frame rate and use underwater motion capture to captivate the audiences. With his goal to showcase the best possible views of fictional moon Pandora, the site noted that release dates might be rescheduled.
Unfortunately, Cameron did not reveal further details on the plot. But one thing’s certain: Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) will definitely be back!
“Avatar” 2 is expected to hit theatres on December 2017. And if it goes according to planned, it will be followed by “Avatar” 3 in 2018 and “Avatar” 4 in 2019.
For now, let’s relieve the moments why we fell in love with the first film.
