Australia will host West Indies in the Second Test Match on Boxing Day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from Dec. 26 to Dec. 30 starting this Saturday. Australia are currently leading the three-match Test Series 1-0.
Australia crushed West Indies at Hobart in the first Test match by an inning and 212 runs. They continued their terrific home run after their series victory against New Zealand. On the other hand, West Indies have lost all their last five Test Matches.
After Australian Captain Steve Smith was declared the ICC Best Cricketer in the World, he would be more than happy to captain a side booming with confidence right now. Josh Halewood was declared the ICC Emerging Player while South African ace Batsman Ab DeVilliers won the ICC Best Batsman two years in a row.
As per Fox Sports, West Indies Coach Phil Simmons Devendra Bishoo will be included in the side for the upcoming test match. He picked up Steve Smith as well as David Warner in Hobart. West Indies batting order is still trying to cope with the Australian pace attack.
The Australian side is expected to make room for Usman Khawaja who is returning for the second test. Scott Boland has been very impressive and might be called for the Boxing Day Test.
As per Sydney Morning Herald, curator David Sandurski expects the side to win the toss to bat first. The pitch is capable of running for five days and is the same turf used in last year’s test match against India.
“The wicket is tracking exactly the same as last year’s match against India,” Sandurski said on Wednesday.
“If anything we’re probably a little bit ahead of schedule but so far so good. I think you’ve got to have a think about it, but usually you’d bat first.”
Australia likely XI: Joe Burns, David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh, Peter Nevill, James Pattinson, Peter Siddle, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon
West Indies likely XI: Kraigg Brathwaite, Rajendra Chandrika, Darren Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Jermaine Blackwod, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Jason Holder (capt), Kemar Roach, Jerome Taylor, Jomel Warrican, Devendra Bishoo/ Carlos Brathwaite
