Test Matches are not so long anymore. Matches getting wrapped up under three days is definitely a sign that fast-paced T20 Cricket has taken a huge toll on the longer format of the game. But we don’t mind watching David Warner getting into the Big Bash mould right from the start of the test match.
Such is the scene at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne. According to Fox Sports, Warner started playing a T20-style innings in the Boxing Day Test. He didn’t lose much time settling in and started belting the Kookaburra right across the fence from the first ball of the match.
So much so, Kemar Roach had to be taken away from the balling attack early on.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first on Boxing Day. Shaun Marsh’s exclusion from the side, which Captain Steve Smith termed as “Very Unlucky”, made room for Usman Khawaja. Even Scott Boland didn’t receive his expected call for the test.
As per the Sydney Morning Herald, Captain Smith urged his players to raise their fielding standards. “I think our fielding has been quite disappointing this summer so far, so that’s something we’ve been working very hard at,” Smith said.
Australia will look to pose a mammoth total in the first innings. West Indies are already struggling to adapt to Australian conditions. We want to see some resistance from the West Indian camp.
