“Assassin’s Creed” is pitching a movie version of the game and “X-Men: Apocalypse” star Michael Fassbender will be in the lead role.
Fassbender will play a character named Callum Lynch, a new assassin which has yet to be sees in the games.
“Assassin’s Creed” shared on its Instagram account the first few photos of Fassbender in Callum’s costume.
According to Yahoo Movies, Lynch lives in a modern-day setting but he will eventually find out that he is a descendant of a secret society of assassins. He will unlock genetic memories that will also allow him to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar.
Lynch will gain skills and expertise as an assassin which he will need in his battle against the Knights Templar when he goes back to the present day.
Fassbender will also play Aguilar, who lived in Spain in the 15th century, Independent wrote.
Fassbender has been known for his role as Magento in “X-Men” movies. He also starred in “Macbeth”, ”Inglourious Basterds,” and “12 Years a Slave.”
On “Assassin’s Creed” official Twitter account, it has been revealed that the movie will have a connection to the game, and to future comics and books.
According to Ubergizmo, this suggests that whatever viewers will see in the movie or have seen from previous “Assassin’s Creed” titles will have some kind of connection on the film and vice versa.
Aymar Azaiza, who is head of Assassin’s Creed content, also confirmed that familiar characters who are part of the modern-day Abstergo Industries will likely appear in the movie.
According to the Guardian, Australian film-maker Justin Kurzel will direct the movie.
“Assassin’s Creed” movie also stars Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Michael K Williams (12 Years a Slave), and French actress Ariane Labed (Before Midnight)
Film production, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, is set to take place in Malta, London, and Spain, Yahoo Movies added.
The “Assassin’s Creed” movie will be coming to theaters on December 21, 2016.
