“Arrow” season 4 was probably tough for actress Katie Cassidy because her character’s death was controversial for many fans of the show.
In the episode “Eleven-Fifty-Nine,” Damien Dahrk stabbed Laurel Lance aka Black Canary, the role Cassidy played in the series. Dahrk even used one of Oliver’s arrows to do it, The Hollywood Reporter noted. Although she made it to the hospital, Laurel didn’t recover and eventually died.
Cassidy only found out about her character’s impending death two episodes before shooting. However, the actress agreed the producers’ choice made sense.
“I was OK with it,” Cassidy revealed. “We all came to an understanding that this was what was going to happen. I think the shock value is good. It’s such a jolt and such a turn in the story that it gives them so much more to do and places to go with it. Otherwise, I feel like shows can get stale,” she added.
As a keepsake, producers let Cassidy take home Black Canary’s jacket and mask. She wore the jacket for the first time at the close of season 2. Cassidy also mentioned she had a blast playing a strong female character who kicked ass. However, “Arrow” fans will continue to see her in upcoming episodes. THR revealed that flashbacks would feature Cassidy as Laurel Lance. In addition, Collider reported her guest appearances on “The Flash” and “Vixen.”
Meanwhile, actor Stephen Amell got candid at the recent 2016 MTV Movie Awards. Amell came to present the Best Kiss award. In a quick interview with ET at the red carpet, he kidded about his best onscreen kiss with Will Arnett. However, Amell eventually told the truth and said it was with Emily Bett Rickards.
“She’s a good kisser,” he said.
