Angelina Jolie Pitt is now an academic, as the Hollywood star has been appointed as a visiting professor at the London School of Economics.
London School of Economics is one of Britain’s most prestigious universities. The actress, who is an Oscar winner and a political campaigner, has now added another feather to her cap.
She is going to join former Foreign Secretary William Hague as a lecturer at the university’s Centre for Women, Peace and Security. It has been reported by The Independent that at the university, she will act as an aid to teach students studying for a Master’s degree.
While working as a visiting professor, Angelina Jolie will provide guest lectures, get involved in workshops and public events, as well as continue research on projects.
She said that she is very encouraged by the initiation of this master’s program, and she hopes that other academic institutions will pursue this format.
She also added that it is important that people widen the discussion on how to help evolve women’s rights, says People. She called for ending “impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women,” especially sexual violence during conflict.
“I am looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students, as well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations,” she said.
The “Taking Lives” actress has been an excellent ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency and is also one of its special envoys.
She is known to be a vocal campaigner on refugee rights. She has acted against female genital mutilation and also against the use of rape as a weapon of war.
The master’s course is the first of its kind internationally. It was started last year by Angelina Jolie and William Hauge.
In recent times, the actress has been speaking about the refugee crisis and how the European governments are failing to address the situation.
