Google is urging you to guess the name of the next Android OS coming to town.
The new video uploaded by Google employees Nat and Lo dropped hints on the possible name of the operating system and gave fans a peek at what would be the latest addition to the Android statues. As is tradition, Google’s Mountain View California HQ will see the new Android robot installed in the lawns.
When it comes to naming its operating systems, Google has always opted for confectionery or dessert names and this time is no different. Just to refresh your memory, previous names have included: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat and Lollipop.
For those taking a guess, we do know that the name starts with M and “Milkshake,” “Meatball” and “Moonpie” are among some of the names mentioned on the video.
As suggested by Digital Trends, Marshmallows could be one of the potential names. The droid we receive a preview of towards the end of the video appears to be Marshmallow-like.
It will be fun to see what Android M finally turns out to be when it does make an appearance. The video shares that “it’s about to drop” and is “almost here.” Fans awaiting its arrival should soon be treated to the news offering.
Android M will be arriving with features such as better battery life and app permission management, Android Pay, fingerprint authentication, support for USB Type-C and an advanced Google Now.
As highlighted by Techradar since the Android Lollipop arrived in mid-October last year, chances are Android M would also arrive around the same time this year. The Digital Trend posts, however, hints its arrival to be sooner which could sometime in September.
The new Nexus phone’s launch is around the corner, ensuring that the OS in question should be coming out sooner.
