Americas’ most loved singing contest is set to kick off its final season on Wednesday (Jan. 6).

Don’t miss “American Idol” judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick when they grill the hopefuls on its first round of auditions in Denver, Colorado and Atlanta, Georgia in a four-hour, two-night show.

What can audience  expect in the finale season of AI?

Executive producer Trish Kinane said they will be paying tribute to the show’s past while still focusing on the battle among this year’s contestants.

“It’s that tricky thing of, ‘Hey, it’s the 15th season, let’s do nostalgia, let’s look back at the show’s really rich history. But on the other hand, you’ve got to find an amazing American Idol. So we’re trying to combine both of those things,” Kinane told ABC News.

The show’s end is due to its huge drop in ratings. “Idol,” which averaged more than 30 million weekly viewers at its 2006 peak and ranked No. 1 for nine consecutive years, averaged about 11 million last season, CBS noted.

“American Idol” started in 2002 and it was an instant hit. It made several stars such as Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and others.

CBS quoted Connick saying: “It would be ideal if the final season produces another ‘American Idol’ pop superstar. The show has had a lot of hits, had a lot of misses. I would love to see somebody come out and put a bookend on what Kelly Clarkson did the first year, which is to sell a ton of records, sell a lot of concert tickets and became a household name.”

“That would be a great way to end it,” he said.

Meanwhile, it can be recalled that Kanye West auditioned for Fox’s singing competition show back in October to the surprise of the judges.

West stunned the judges and host Ryan Seacrest when he showed up and performed an a cappella of his hit “Gold Digger.” Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian, was also seen cheering her husband while she awaits the verdict from outside the room with Seacrest.

The International Business Times reported that a fan of Kelly Clarkson will also try his luck in the last season of AI.

Justin Sullivan, who proclaimed to be a huge fan of the first “American Idol” winner, will try to meet his idol before the show ends. He also made a shirt with “Mr. Clarkson” nickname imprinted across the back.

“American Idol” season 15 airs from 8-10 p.m. EST on Wednesday and Thursday.
