AlDub became a popular tandem in the Philippines and worldwide in 2015. The charm of Alden Richards and sweet humor of Maine Mendoza, a.k.a. Yaya Dub, instantly captured a big fan base with their spontaneous acts on live TV drama, “Kalyeserye.” And on July 16, Alden and Maine’s love team will celebrate their first anniversary.
Speaking to Manila Bulletin, the Filipino actor revealed what fans should expect in their first year celebration. He mentioned that he and Maine will prepare something special for the fans.
“Of course, July 16.. that’s when it all started. We’re very excited,” Alden said. He admitted that things happened really fast. He told Manila Bulletin that he never expected that AlDub would go this far.
In July 2015, the two actors became popular on Philippine noon time show “Eat Bulaga!” The show had a segment called “Kalye Serye.” Maine Mendoza’s character “Yaya Dub” met Alden Richards and their sweet reactions and dubsmash videos made them a popular love team. Yaya Dub’s grandmother, Lola Nidora, did everything to make sure they won’t end up together.
However, three months after, it seems Lola Nidora changed her mind. In an event called “Sa Tamang Panahon” (At the Right Time), the entire cast and loyal fans gathered at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan. They also made Twitter history as their hashtags got 41 million tweets from October 23 – October 25 of last year, Rappler noted.
Meanwhile, aside from their special episode, their first solo film together will also hit Philippine cinemas. Entitled “Imagine You & Me,” Alden said that this is also their gift to the loyal AlDub supporters.

“I’m looking forward (to the movie). This year, it’s going to be one of the highlights of AlDub,” he told at a press conference. Despite of criticisms and backlash, Alden says he and Maine remain positive.
“At the end of the day, what matters most is what we believe in, kung ano ’yung pagkakaintindihan namin ni Maine at kung ano ang meron kaming dalawa (our understanding and what we have), that’s what’s important,” he further told the site.
