Fans grieved when ABC axed Agent Carter after just two short seasons. However, most of them did not give up hope. Some even began a petition for streaming service sites, like Netflix and Amazon, to bring back the show. Can fans now expect an Agent Carter Season 3 to drop soon?
It does make sense for Netflix to revive Peggy Carter’s series. The site already has a show about another strong Marvel super heroine, Jessica Jones, up their sleeves. Can Netflix then bring Agent Carter into the fold? Can they even make a crossover between the two shows?
A joint episode starring Peggy Carter and Jessica Jones could prove really interesting. However, it seems this won’t take place anytime soon. Fans shouldn’t hold out their breath for Agent Carter Season 3 either. Netflix has officially confirmed that they would not pick up the show for future installments. The company’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, earlier sat down for an interview to explain their decision.
Sarandos outlined two main reasons why Netflix chose to pass up on the chance to give Agent Carter another lease of life. The second season of Jessica Jones might have actually had a hand in this decision. The Netflix executive explained that the company is looking for “truly original brands” to showcase. The company thinks they already have enough original comic book series as it is.
He also explained how complicated the process to save the show would’ve been. Netflix wouldn’t just need to strike a deal with ABC. They need to negotiate with ABC’s other partners as well. “They also have some output deal complexities,” Sarandos told Entertainment Weekly.
“So when you pick it up, being able to pick it up globally is difficult even after it’s canceled. Some of those output partners still had it on the air, so they would argue its covered by their output [deals]. Unfortunately, it was a business decision more than a creative one.”
Will fans ever get an Agent Carter Season 3? No word as of yet to confirm this. Stay tuned for updates.
