The Sydney FC host Chinese team Guangzhou Evergrande in their Asian Champions League group stage game at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney on Wednesday, March 2, starting 8 PM AEDT.
Guangzhou Evergrande is a popular name among Australian fans. Especially as they have played Western Sydney Wanderers four times in the past couple of years.
As per the A-League sources, “The likes of Zhang Linpeng and Kim Young-gwon and Zheng Zhi have played together for years and form a solid foundation to the team and under Luiz Felipe Scolari.
“Guangzhou have become more pragmatic under the Brazilian and are happy defend when necessary, it is just that other teams tend to sit back when confronted with the five-time Chinese champions.”
Sources state that the addition of Felipe Scolari has supplemented a “Brazilian Flavour” to the side.
According to the age.com.au, the recent addition of Jackson Martinez will be a huge boost to their side. Last month, Chinese football sent shockwaves through the European ranks when Atletico Madrid sold Martinez for 61.64M (£31.9M) to Evergrande.
The record move was hailed as one of the most bold decisions as Martinez didn’t mark his presence in the La Liga with the Spanish side.
Sydney FC will bank on their home advantage to make to make the most out of the Wednesday night’s game.
The Sydney team has gone winless in six A-League games and has been defeated in their last ACL game. This is the perfect platform for the side to make a bold statement.
